homeopathy and kids - remedies for colds and flus
Hello to you all!
I hope that this newsletter finds you well. I thought that it might be a good idea to have another newsletter about which remedies are helping, have helped and to have on hand to help with this year's Cold and Flu season. We are nearing the end of the season but just in case you or your family encounters another round of symptoms, I thought I would touch on it again.
Common symptoms in children:
Fever remedies:
Belladonna - for intense, high fevers, the child is hot, hot, hot (hot to touch, burning). They may be red in the face, glassy eyes and they may even hallucinate
Aconite - for intense fevers, quick onset, the child may be panicky. Not as hot as Belladonna
Gelsemium - child has a fever and they are droopy - the child has low energy, lethargic, droopy looking
Eupatorium - child has a fever and they are achey and sore - bones, joints, muscles, neck - they are achey
Chamomilla - child has fever and they are whinney, nothing makes them happy.
Pulsatilla - child has a fever and they are whinney, sensitive. Their symptoms change - they move from one place on the body to another
I like to recommend Oscillococcinum, the liquid combo remedy, and or Aconite + Bryonia when the first signs of a cold/flu are present. It may negate the cold/flu, or it might help with lessening the symptoms and shortening the duration of the cold/flu.
Strep throat/sore throat:
Mercurius sol + Belladonna given frequently (negative strep) - sore throat
Hepar sulph + Belladonna (Positive strep)
Croup cough:
Aconite - this is the first remedy to try
Hepar sulph - this is the second remedy to try
Spongia - this is the third remedy to try
In a situation where your child has Croup, you want to try giving them Aconite first (if there is no improvement after 3 doses then you move to the next remedy, and so on). If you know that one of these three remedies works when your child gets croup, then you start with that one.
Congestion/sinus:
Sanguinaria - this is the premiere Sinus remedy - for all things related to the sinus
Coryzalia - a combo remedy from Boiron that helps with stuffed up and runny nose, sneezing
Sinusalia - a combo remedy from Boiron that helps with all things sinus related
Belladonna - any pain, then you can use
* As we head into Allergy season, these remedies may be good to have on hand as well.
Pink eye:
Mercuius sol - for pain, and if possible exposure to strep (premiere remedy protocol)
Belladonna - for pain, redness, burning, worse with too much light and or noise
Pulsatilla - yellow or green discharge, child may be clingy, could be itchy
Argentum nitricum - (premiere remedy protocol)
Euphrasia - large quanitites of clear flow, watery tears that burn around the eye and skin on face
My new Cold and Cough kit is now in! It includes a carrying case, a booklet with this information and much more, 15 remedies in total (one is the combo liquid remedy that I never leave home without). Owning a kit like this is very powerful because it allows you to have access to some of the most used remedies when it comes to Children and Colds and Flus. What I also recommend is having access to a Homeopath so that when/if a child gets sick, you can discuss options and which remedies would be best to use. I have found that this feeling personally is empowering - knowing I have access to someone who can help me (because lots of times when our loved ones are sick, we can't think clearly - I speak from experience).
